Ephesians Introduction 1:1-2

In this opening message of our study through Ephesians, we explore the context of the Ephesian church and culture. Paul wrote to believers in Ephesus, a thriving city filled with wealth, entertainment, opportunity, competing beliefs, and cultural pressures. Having personally ministered there, Paul understood the challenge of following Jesus in a culture constantly pulling believers in other directions. Writing while under Roman custody, Paul reminds them that their identity is not ultimately found in their circumstances, achievements, possessions, or culture, but in Christ. As people who belong to Jesus, we are set apart for God and called to live differently while remaining engaged in the world around us. This same challenge remains relevant today as we navigate a world full of opportunities, distractions, comforts, and competing influences. Our true identity, purpose, peace, and security are found in Christ, and that identity should shape every area of our lives.
